Second, I remember discussing God's Not Dead to a friend of mine. He hasn't seen it, and I described to him how much of a hateful, disguising, purely manipulative, and evil movie. For those of you that are not in the know, God's Not Dead is about a college student who is in a debate with his professor, who is an atheist, about God's existence. The student is at risk for FAILING THE ENTIRE SEMESTER if he does not convince the class that God is alive! I am not making that up! That is the plot! The student doesn't tell the school board, because logic does not exist in this world of racist and hatefulness! The professor, who has a Christen girlfriend, is mean to her and makes fun of her religious beliefs with his academic friends (yeah I believe that as much as Justin Beiber being a decent human being), some guy dumping his girlfriend because SHE HAS CANCER (you wish I was making that up), and a scene so offensive with a Muslim family that I cannot say why because of how disgusting it is. Here's a hint though, it involves domestic abuse.
This movie's entire point is to re-establish the beliefs of the easily persuaded Christen demographic who are stupid enough to make this a box-office hit (HATE! HATE! URGE TO KILL RISING!) that God exists, and yet throughout it is a thinly-veiled attempt to make you think about your beliefs while hammering in the message that "GOD IS THE BEST THING EVER! FOLLOW HIM OR YOU WILL BURN IN HELL WITH ALL THE FAGS WHO DARE TO LIVE THEIR LIVES WITH THE WAY THEY WERE BORN WITH AND ALL THE OTHER WRONG RELIGIONS AND BELIEFS WHO DARE TO LIVE THEIR LIVES WITHOUT GOD!" This movie disgusts me as a Christen because of how hypocritical and Biblically wrong it is, as a movie fan who enjoys well-written, paced, edited, directed, and acted movies, and as a human being for how hateful it is!
And that one scene in On the Waterfront proves that using Christianity or God in general CAN WORK and not be such a hateful mess as God's Not Dead! The Father in that scene tries to convince everyone why God is on the waterfront. He is constantly attacked and told to leave, but he stays there and debates and shouts why God needs to be at the waterfront. He does not say that they are wrong for not believing it, he is saying that there needs to be humanity there! That we must show love to one another and not by antagonizing them! Not by demeaning them! Not by shoving a belief down their throats that they don't believe in! And it is sad that a movie released THIS YEAR is missing a point on a film released more than half a decade ago! We need more films like On the Waterfront to get their hands dirty! And we need less God's Not Dead who deliver such a hateful message on why God is good!
If anyone agrees with this and seen God's Not Dead, please e-mail Pure Flix (the production company) tell them why their portrayal of Christianity with that film is wrong, and why they are wrong with making such a hateful film. Please, be mature and don't send death threats or act like a ten year old playing Call of Duty! That won't get the message across.
If anyone was offended by this post, don't blame me. Blame Leeper! He was the one that planned this lesson!
I would like to thank the Smashing Pumpkins for their amazing album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness for helping me write this post and calming me down as well! It really helped!
Now cuteness
…"is mean to her and makes fun of her religious beliefs with his academic friends (yeah I believe that as much as Justin Beiber being a decent human being),"
ReplyDeleteIf you don't believe that Christians are mocked and made fun of regularly in professional settings, there's some learning that has to happen. This happens all the time in the real world. Not in every workplace, but that attitude toward Christians is real and it's on the rise.
Sorry, that just didn't sit well with me. ;;
ReplyDeleteYeah my bad. I know this does happen with the real world a lot, but the issue I took was that the filmmakers, who are not of that demographic, are portraying them in a rather negative and unflattering light. Not being preachy, but when portraying a demographic you have to be careful portraying them since they are representative with that demographic. And vilifying atheistic beliefs is not right. In fact it's rather hypocritical.
