Life in a Day
Life in a Day is an indescribable documentary. Well, it's kind of describable - the only way to describe it is "what it is to be human." I would say that's what the documentary is about, but it feels like much more than just the topic of the film. The fact that there is a film such as this one is a part of the experience.
On July 24, 2010, thousands of people uploaded videos of their habits, their celebrations, their grief, their lives to YouTube. This footage, submitted by people from almost 200 different countries, was compiled into a documentary following people from morning to night, a full day, July the 24th experienced by thousands of people. This film challenges your ideas of culture, of race and society, it introduces you to people you would have never met before and shows you that everyone is worth knowing. It doesn't tell you this directly, but when I watch "Life in a Day," I learn to love better. It's eye-opening and has the power to connect people to humanity.
Maybe I'm talking it up too much. All I can say is that I'm deeply moved by this film each time that I watch it.
Life in a Day is available on Netflix, as well as YouTube. Here is the link to the full film. I seriously suggest you watch it (if not for the sociocultural aspect, then for the brilliant editing and filmmaking).
