Kathleen "Mack"enzie Mayo

Hey there, hi there, ho there! BEWARE THE FOLLOWING RAMBLINGS.
(yours truly)

FACTS

My name is Kathleen, I've been called Katy my entire life, and you may call me Mack. I've had a million nicknames, KitKat, KatyLady, Tee, T-Bird, Sesh, Mack-Attack, K-ster, Mack-aroni and so on. I love nicknames, I love unique names you don't hear everyday, feel free to make up nicknames, I can add them to my collection muahaha.

I love dogs, aliens, robots, androids, mutants, dorks, the 90s/early 2000s, 1940s/50s/60s and monsters.

I love drawing expressions, characters, scenes/characters interacting, cute things, epic things, cool things, dorky things, and all the previously mentioned things I love.

My favorite music spans from the most normal of modern music to the most unique sounding songs. Some genres include: 90s/early 2000s pop, RnB, Rock and Roll, Alternative, Rock, Indie, Folk, Rockabilly, Big Band, Swing, Electro Swing, Techno/Electronic, Dubstep/Heavy Techno, Classical, and so on. Really I just love music, a lot. I typically listen to music by song, it's rare for me to find a band I thoroughly enjoy, the few bands I like more than 3 songs from are Twenty One Pilots, Mother Mother, Huey Lewis & the News, and Three Dog Night.

My favorite types of comedies are usually parodies, and other inventive humor. I enjoy slapstick, intelligent humor like such in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and several Monty Python sketches and films. I enjoy such parodies and inventive humor as Airplane, Wrongfully Accused, and Naked Gun. I also enjoy action movies.

ARTISTIC HISTORY

I've been drawing since I was 10, using Photoshop for possibly 7-8ish? of those years, and I simply aDORE creating characters. I love the entire process of creating characters, their personalities, their history, their backstories, their relation to other characters, how all the characters connect and the story they live in, the society of the story, the scenery, the culture the setting, everything.

I've created many a character in my time so far with much more to come. A constant battle with myself is never having enough time for all of my stories, I've had several failed comics attempts, most don't last past 2 pages at the least, the most I've gotten out was 12. If you ever want to hear a story or a concept or see some characters feel free to tap me on the shoulder and ask what I'm currently working on, chances are it'll be something different every time. (if it's not I'll pick something else to ramble about. XD)

I also had a habit of "fandom-hopping" and even story/interest-hopping when I was younger, and sort of still do. I tend to get really into a particular story or concept of my own, but after a certain amount of time, could be a week, could be a year, I lose interest and move onto the next big idea, with still holding the others in mind for possible future reanimation. (no pun intended) It began with Tokyo Mew Mew, my first manga, I did a lot of tracing and 10-year-old type drawings, then moved onto Sonic and remained in that fandom for a good year or two convincing myself I could work for SEGA one day, then I decided if I went into drawing anthropomorphic animals (or furries) more originally I could get a better career, later on I swayed back into Sonic, then Monsters University, then Invader Zim for a good year and a half, and most recently in the past half year or so I got mega into Osmosis Jones.

I feel that character creation is truly my passion. Every fandom I've entered it's been the same process "Well…maybe I'll just draw one fan character…" then two months later I've accumulated 30 all with connecting complex stories. I also consider my style to be rather flexible as I've leapt around all the fandoms and been able to pull off styles from each, however it maintains a cuteness to it I think.

Some examples of my work in fandoms, and a few original pieces:

**Disclaimer: Mostly all of my fandom works do not indulge the "official" or "canon" characters of the series/movie/story, aside from Sonic in which my plot is of the "next generation" but I prefer to invent my own characters and stories out of the universe the movie or cartoon of the fandom has created.
Sonic

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Monsters University

Invader Zim

(this particular piece was an attempted Zim fan-comic which had a life span of 4 prologue pages, 1 cover page, and 3 pages of the 1st chapter, 7 pages altogether not including the cover page, the story has since been scraped due to time constraints and overall loss of interest and material for the story)

Osmosis Jones
(one of the main characters of my "fan-verse" off of Osmosis Jones. Neutro Phil or "Neut" the best white blood cell, or "cop" of the body, based off my own immune system which is very tough. He's dedicated to what he does though often running himself ragged and looking a lot older than he is due to the wear of stress he constantly pushes himself through.)

(A concept I wanted to play with, in Osmosis Jones the white blood cell "cops" have to fight the bad guy viruses, which would be things like the flu and pneumonia, but I considered what if they had to fight MENTAL illnesses? Could they even? After all it's a mental conception, not exactly a physical virus you can get rid of. This particular concept was for Anxiety and Depression, two things I suffer minorly from. The concept was what would they look like as a physical "virus")

(This one was not so much a failed comic attempt as an experimental Osmosis Jones fan-comic, I had a feeling I wasn't going to be able to keep up with it, but I wanted to give it a shot, I may return to it sometime in the future, but for now this is all that exists of it.)

Original Works
I do feel uncomfortable posting original works online, however here are a few spontaneous characters or pieces that have little to no story connection I feel comfortable sharing here.

I don't usually like to post my own original work online because I'm paranoid about people stealing or copying my concepts and characters, but if you are interested at all feel free to ask and I'll gladly ramble, I'd love to hear about your concepts as well. :) I love stories and characters and entire made up cultures and things like that. All my characters (including ALL of those pictured above) have names and stories behind them I'd be more than happy to tell you about. (some may only have names and not so much stories x'D but I can guarantee personalities and names for all of them at the least)

MORE FACTS

ALSO, please note I'm super forgetful, don't be offended if I forget your name or if I forget details about stories you've told me, I have an awful memory as well as a brain that is constantly firing off ideas and thinking about various stories or things going on so, and it tends to forget details of things and I can usually only recover general ideas.

Well that's a little bit about me…rather a lot. You'll find I'm rather quiet but if you can get me going on a topic I am passionate about/enjoy talking about/have an interest in, I wont shut up, and part of me believes this stems from frantically trying to avoid misunderstandings as they've been the bane of my existence and caused many fights and arguments in my life as well as causing me to feel judged or stupid somehow. xP

I am an odd person at best, I often have personalities, moods or actions that contradict myself without any meaning or conscious decision on my part, such as saying or feeling I'm introverted but actively going out with friends and enjoying being active. I consider myself an odd individual, I don't know what I want and generally in most situations I don't know what I prefer, I don't trust myself to make decisions, overall I just don't seem to understand myself just yet, there's a lot of "depends..." or "it varies…" answers to questions about myself, I feel I'm never any one way although I feel I'm slowly getting an idea of who I am, I'm still uncertain. I also noticed more recently I don't appear to actively indulge in my own feelings, there have been situations where I've been completely unaware of how deeply an event has affected me until I open my mouth to speak about it or someone specifically points it out and I completely break down.

I do have dysthymia, which is basically like a minor depression, or as my psychologist referred to it "vegetative depression" which dysthymia is like depression without the life threatening risk, or as Wikipedia puts it "a mood disorder consisting to the same cognitive and physical problems as in depression, with less severe, but longer-lasting symptoms" Dysthymia is kinda just a remarkable drain of not wanting to do anything, not feeling anything, having no motivation or effort. I do have very minor anxiety as well as some slight borderline personality. But rest assured I'm practically normal on the surface aside from goofy weirdness.

I haven't had any one deeply tragic moment from my past but rather a lot of little things that've slowly built up (in addition to a few bigger scares) over time and caused a lot of damage and confusion in me that still hasn't quiet healed, I wont go into a ton of detail on that but you may discover it from me at some point or another.

FUN-ER FACTS

SORRY TO GET ALL DEEP THERE AT THE END HOO-HAH THAT WAS BIZARRE.

SOME MORE ENLIGHTENING FUN FACTS: I tried to do parkour this weekend (and by parkour I mean running down a hill and misjudging my speed and leaping off of it onto the sidewalk rag-dolling onto it) and scraped my knee.

I've never blown milk through my nose but I have had vomit go through my nose as well as my mouth simultaneously.

I have several very close online friends I met through deviantART, four of which I had the pleasure of meeting in real life at the third (and final) Invader Zim convention in Austin, Texas.

I wore overalls all the time as a kid and I wish they'd come back into style so I could wear them again.

Over time my family has owned 3 hamsters, 5 guinea pigs, a bird, a bunny, and we presently own two dogs: Caspian and Gypsy.

I have 3 younger brothers whom are totes rad and I love with all my heart.

These are my parents, they're pretty legit.

AND THAT'S IT FOR MACK'S REMARKABLE ABILITY TO RAMBLE OFF NONSENSE.

ENJOY. SEE YOU ALL IN CLASS.

-Mack

P.S. Since everyone's submitting cool funny gifs I'll join the party

Excelsior!

Hello fellow DMA students (and some not), my name is Abbey Frisco and I am a freshman Film Production major. I'm from the good ole' state of Pennsylvania (we have hills there). How did I find myself at a small school in Indiana then? Ask me sometime, it's a long story!

I've had an interest in Film since middle school, when I started messing around with Windows Movie Maker and Paint by creating small animations (which you will never see, they are embarrassing). I started paying attention to special effects and special features that came with movies. I've always been into technology, so watching how effects and scenes in movies were made blew my mind. I never had any equipment of my own, so everything I've done already I had to use whatever was available, so mostly handy cams.

In my heart, I know I want to direct someday, for I have visions, and I want to see those visions come to life, but for now, I really want to focus on visual effects and writing. I love the conceptual and creative side of movies; the thought behind everything and the way everything in a movie interacts. Also, I want to learn special effects really bad. I also have a thing for opening and end credit sequences. If there's effects, animation, anything along with the words, I love it.

A Little Bit About Myself
I'm a triplet; the other two went to state schools back in PA, but I decided to venture. I love theatre and that plays into my love of movies. I am a huge Marvel fan, especially Captain America and the X-Men. You can tell me by my laptop's Captain America decal! So in turn, I own almost all the Marvel movies, and every X-Men film. And guess what? I actually read the comics! I'll gladly have a conversation with you about anything Marvel, I love to talk about what makes me a nerd!

Here's my Youtube channel if you want to see any of the stuff I've done in high school:

Glad to meet all of you, and I'm exciting to see our projects and love of art over the semester and next couple of years! Excelsior!

Hello everyone! My name is Ben Crane and I’m a film production major at Huntington University. If I stay on my current course I’ll be graduating in 2018. I was born in San Antonio, Texas, and I am one of seven children in my family.

I first got interested in film through making short videos with my siblings. I was the only one with the patience for the post production side of things, so I did the editing and visual effects for all of the videos we made. Through this time I grew to love the visual effects side of things more and more. In late 2009, I came into contact with a Christian film producer named Tom Dallis. Because of this meeting, I had the opportunity to work on a number of his documentaries, such as:  A History of Christian Worship: Ancient Ways, Future Paths: Parts 2,4, and 5, Through a Lens Darkly: Grief Loss & C.S. Lewis, and lastly, a feature film called The Watchers Revelation.

My favorite films are: Gravity (2013), Warrior (2011), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) and Sophie Scholl – The Final Days (2006)

Looking forward to spending this semester with you all!

BenCrane

Awww yeeeeh, you know who it is!

…well maybe you don't. But you will know a bit more about me after reading this, I hope! My name is Adrienne Funderburg. You can call me Ace, if you'd like. Most people do. But before you ask, I really don't have a preference, you can call me either one! I'm an average height, pale girl with short blonde hair and a scooter, in case you see me around campus.

I'm a freshman Biology Education major, on track to be a high school science teacher. But I'll be honest, I have no idea what the heck I'll be doing with my life. A few months ago I thought I had it all figured out, but through a series of interesting and challenging events this summer, God's taught me that I'm not in control of much of anything in my life. He's got a big huge plan for my life and all I can do right now is go the direction I'm headed and do my best to hear out his directions.

Bet she thought she had it all figured out too.

But as for now, there are some constants. Some things I love are Pokemon, Welcome to Night Vale, Legend of Zelda, Portal, Star Wars, League of Legends, cats, puns, sushi, and frozen yogurt. There's a lot more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I also really love live theatre. My dad is a sound designer/composer and he's shared his passion for great art with me by taking me to shows whenever he can. He's always talked with me about what I'm observing and helped me dissect everything from the artistic choices of those involved in a work to what the playwright is trying to communicate. I can't thank him enough for that.

I am so excited to learn more about this crazy, God-given thing called "art" in this class.

Please come up and talk to me sometime, I love to get to know people but I'm often nervous to approach people myself! I'll leave you with a video of otters playing the keyboard.

First Blog StaciVanderNaald

To whoever is reading this, you should know that it is my first blog/post ever! Let's hope I'm doing it right. If I accidentally end up writing on the wrong blog page or something, I apologize in advance (I don't even know if it's possible to do that). My name is Staci Vander Naald, I'm 20 years old and from Chicago. I'm an animation major and I feel that I'm really drawn to the story-telling process.
I like stories that aren't just produced for profit (although that is a good thing) but stories that grab your heart and make you think. I think that a lot of what the world is experiencing on the big screen today is kind of... not as good as it could be I guess, but hey, that's marketing for ya. I know that's a bold first statement, but I believe it. There are some really talented people out there who can tell excellent stories and make brilliant movies, yet don't have the money or the capability to produce them. Now that's not to say that I don't love some of the stuff that is produced by bigger companies, but I just enjoy seeing what the smaller people can do. They have more freedom to speak from the heart.
Anyway, I know that's pretty bold, but we'll see, maybe my views will change after this class.
Oh... here's a pic from my fav movie!

Intro to DMA

Hello everyone, my name is Emma Slavin-Hall. I'm a freshman and am an animation major and I can't wait to learn and try all the different styles and skills that the animation department has to offer.
To start off I'm 19 years old and I'm the eldest of 8+ children (8+ because I don't know if there are any more children that my had before our after my two half brothers), 6 of them are my half siblings and one is fully blood related. I live with my grandma and sister on a farm in Harvard, Illinois.  My parents were never married when my sister and i were born, so when I was almost two my dad left after my sister was born and I only heard from him once a few years ago. My mom married her husband when I was three? My sister and I lived with them for a sorry while and during that time he would abuse my sister and I and sometimes  would lock us up in our room our in a closet. It was then that my mom made the decision to let us live with our grandma. We live a happy life now. while I was growing up I always watched the Disney movies, listened to music, and read fairytales as a way to escape from reality and I was always amazed with how the fairytales would be told through the animation. Some of the movies that interested me was Beauty and the Beast, The Corpse Bride, and now Frozen. What made me want to go into animation? I went to an art camp a few years ago for a week and took an animation class to try. By the end of the week I was in love with animation and I lived making something so simple come to life from clay or on paper. I've made a few animated short films since then, but I hope to get improve and learn more techniques while I'm in Animation classes and in the next four years. I hope to get to know all of you and have many fun conversations about movies and T.V. shows together.

Sup

My name is Joshua Berg. I am 19 years old. I'm an international student from Canada. I am really popular and cool. I love skateboarding, and filming/editing skateboarding videos. I am a freshmen (as you Americans call it), and a film production major. I think it would be rad to make Hollywood movies and live in LA :-)

More About Me

I have filmed and edited 2 skateboarding full length videos. The first one I premiered at a library, the second one I premiered at an indoor skatepark. Lot's of famous people came out to watch them. I made lots of money $$

Here's my Youtube channel if you care

oh hey friends...

Hey everyone!

My name's Rachel Hart, or you might know me as the tall, quiet blonde that sits towards the back of the room. I'm a Film Production major on the LA track (squeals excitedly behind computer). For about 90% of my life, the plan was to get a PhD and become a psychologist and work near my hometown in Ann Arbor, but that suddenly changed a couple of years ago when one day I was randomly just like "I'm gonna go into film. WAIT WHAT?" Now, movies have always been a favorite past time of mine and I'd like to consider myself a storyteller and writer, so that part made sense. The part that didn't add up to me was how did I jump from psychology to film? Soon, I started to realize how much psychology goes into making a film. Without an understanding of human nature and emotions it's impossible to make a movie. The most subtle details make the biggest differences. After I saw the bridge between them I started to see a bunch of signs that kept pushing me in this direction. The most inspiring moment was getting to meet Jeff Daniels and perform with him and he signed my old VHS tape of Fly Away Home. I'd spent my whole life telling myself someday I'd meet my childhood hero and then BAM. So cool.

In my free time, I obviously love to watch movies (Netflix is a passion of mine). I also like reading and writing. Oh and sloths are my true love, and I'm dangerously addicted to my famously unrecognized Tumblr (side note: I was way too excited to have an excuse to go through my folders and use .gifs for a school assignment). I'm basically in my natural habitat on a computer or writing and editing, but when it comes to actual PEOPLE I'm very shy. Once you get to know me though, you'll find that I have a rather witty and sarcastic sense of humor (shoutout to the Internet for ruining my humor and social life).

If you ever see me around campus please say hi and feel free to strike up a conversation because I'd love to get to know you! I look forward to working with all of you over the next couple years here at HU and maybe even in the future some of us will start a production company together. Who knows... Anyways. We can worry about that later. In the meantime, I'll leave you with this...

Aayyy everybody!

Hi! My name’s Caitlyn and I am a freshman, majoring in animation. I’ve always been a writer and a drawer: art is my passion and I’m a total sucker for a good story. I don’t have a ton of experience with animation, but that makes me even more excited about what I’ll learn this year. I also totally grew up in a Disney household so I know all the songs, if anybody wants to do like a whole High School Musical moment sometime, and break out into song, I can serenade you all. Actually, no. No I would never do that haha I wouldn’t one, want to hurt your ears, and two, I’m way too quiet for that. I just wanna put this out there that I have established myself as a pretty awkward person. BUT I LOVE TO MAKE FRIENDS and I’m so excited to have this chance to meet all of you! If you ever see me curled up outside somewhere reading, or walking somewhere feel free to say hello! I love talking to people and listening to their stories.
Alrighty, some more… Well, I’ve always loved the fine arts. I love to see what talents people have and how they view the world. I also am super into music. I listen to just about anything and I also played Flute for about 7 years, so if you ever wanna get me talking I can go on about marching band forevs. Oh, and movies! I love watching movies. But I’m totally that person who laughs at like everything. I love to laugh and I definitely enjoy kids movies more than the kids do, basically 99% of the time :) Honestly, I’m just really easily amused. I also love Harry Potter, and the classic movies, like Titanic, of course. Leonardo Dicaprio is mah jam. (And yes, I am a firm believer that there was enough room for him on that wardrobe, Kate Winslet).

Aaanyway, I’m really open to watching anything. I don’t like to say that I don’t like a certain kind of anything: there’s so many good things out there that I’ve never seen or heard of that I’d love to try. But… if there’s a scary movie involved, I will probably be watching it from behind a blanket that I’m hiding under. Just sayin.

Anyway, I’m sure that’s more than you probably wanted to hear, but I hope you have a great day and I’ll see you around!

I just thought I'd share that. I laughed for like 20 minutes. :)
