Religion

It's taken me a while to figure out what to say in this blog, because I honestly don't really care about religion. I'm not going to hate someone if they are religious, it's just not something I like for myself. I personally identify as agnostic, but I was raised catholic. I never really started questioning my faith until college, and even then it was slow going.

Last summer I worked on a film that filmed near my house. I was an intern, so I basically did the grunt work that the PAs didn't want to do. The production company making the film was a christian film company, but the film being made was not overly religious. It is a kid's movie, so the message is there, but not explicitly stated that religion is important. Comparing this with their other film, Rumours of Wars, Little Savages is very tame. Bearfruit films' tagline is "Bringing Redemptive Stories to Life" I liked the people working on the film because they were all so nice and helpful. I wouldn't be here if not for working on that film set.

My point is, films can be religious without having to shove it in your face. I don't really care if you decide to put your faith in your films, and normally I won't get offended, but I'm not really a fan of strong wording.

Basically what I'm saying is there are ways to send a message without having to explicitly state it. Use the design to give your audience clues and let them make their own deductions from that and the story. Production design is one of the most important tools you can use to send a message to people who might not always identify with the story, but can appreciate good design.
