I used to do nothing but play video games for hours and hours, it was basically my life throughout middle school, and most of high school. Looking back it makes me want to go back in time to punch myself in the face. I luckily managed to get balanced only playing like 2 hours or so maybe 3 but not playing every day. I must admit one of the major reasons I became interested in art was for the sake of one day learning how to create a videogame that looked pretty but definitely not the next call of duty, that is just empty death matches, and meaningless 360 no scope headshot, and honestly I could care less about my KDR.  I think that is why I am such a proprietor of the indie scene, but I do not discount the fact that big developers have something to offer in story here and there, but it seems like most of the good story telling and beauty is to be found on the indie scene. Such titles like Element4l, Finding Teddy, NaissanceE, The Plan, Among The Sleep, The Novelist, and The Stanley Parable all have something interesting to say. I think a good indie game to start with is The Plan, it is beautiful, has easy controls, takes about 5-10 minutes to play through, and it is free.
