Documentaries

For me, I have never been super interested in documentaries.  However, from the video that we watched in class it brought up how they are in fact an extremely useful form of art.  I believe that documentaries are not just to teach us about a certain period in time or event, but to really show the viewer a certain weight about the actual event. For example, in a lot of historical event related documentaries interview people who were actually involved in the event and what it really felt like for that individual.

When people talk about events in history like D-Day for example, we will never truly understand just how devastating the event was for the men that fought in this war.  But until you watch one for yourself, you'll find that they interview the survivors of D-Day and it brings a certain weight and feeling to the viewer that was not involved in the war.  I think documentaries like this allow people to get a better sense of just how traumatizing this day was for them.  Dma majors should have an open mind about creating documentaries so that we can help change people's perspective on particular events and dates in time.
