Mockumentary

As much as I love documentaries about old wars and amazing triumphs in human history I find that I gravitate more towards the ridiculous and absurd.  Which brings us to the mockumentary.  One of the most noticeable examples would most likely be the film "This is Spinal Tap."  It is a raucously hilarious look at hair metal bands of the 80's.  If you haven't seen it and you enjoy rock n' roll I would say that it is an absolute must!

Never have I laughed so hard as in this scene where the character "Nigel Tufnel" talks about how he truly expresses himself musically through his guitar solos.  Just a true comedic masterpiece.  It was highly successful in really starting a conversation about musicians and their way of life.

It seems that another successful format for a mockumetary is a guerrilla style commercial.  One of the funniest, albeit, long-winded commercials I've ever seen was for a BMW.  This mockumentary takes place in the fictitious town of Oberphallphelbacken and it seems that the inhabitants have constructed a ridiculously huge ramp to fly a BMW from Bavaria to the United States.  If you've never seen it I highly recommend it.
