Parenting Censorship

I am not sure what the background is of many people, but mine is very different. I say that because my family hates art and although they view movies and media, it is for sheer entertainment. When I was old enough to start viewing media; I had a lot of restrictions from my mother. She didn't want me to even view anything that she didn't like; so I didn't watch scary movies, I didn't play violent video games with bad language, and I didn't view any shows on tv that she deemed stupid. However, my father had his say on the matter as well. He didn't like how my mother was restricting me, so he opened up my viewing range to many other facets of media. He was the reason I was raised on Twisted Metal, the reason I listen to many songs created before I was born, and the reason I love movies and film. So, growing up in this kind of household created a kind of duality in my life, I would be an inmate in her presence and a rebel in his, and this kind of grew until I was old enough that she no longer had a say in the matter.
Now, all of this begs one small question. Why do I like art and animation? None of my family is artistic in the slightest, they are very conformed to the norm, and I have no idea how I am how I am. When I said I was going to college for animation they essentially said good luck, because they have no idea how I will make any income with a degree like that. However, for some reason I knew I would be fine, because if you love doing something then it is worth doing. So, here I am.
Now, back to the previous text; I was permitted to view some things, which I will share here to give you some insight into my childhood. Some of my favorite shows were Johnny Test, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans, Looney Toons, and Tom and Jerry. Some of my favorite movies were Blade, the Matrix, Jimmy Neutron, the Spongebob Movie, Atlantis, Resident Evil, Incredibles, and Mortal Kombat. So, that was me, by day one way and by night another....
