YouTube

In a follow up to my presentation today I just wanted to touch on the topic of YouTube. Since it's incarnation in 2005, YouTube has become a huge source of media consumption and has forever changed the way we think to view videos. Just like google, it's also a norm to say "YouTube it" when it comes to almost anything. The reason why I wanted to include the Eric Garner video of him saying he can't breather while being arrested is because it shows just how fast we're able to get the news straight from the source these days. Quite frankly YouTube is putting traditional media out on the curb.

We see the traditional news outlets try to capitalize and show case what the kids are watching these days in order to get their viewership, but I still find myself just going straight online instead of watching a talking head. That's promising considering that's supposed to be my future career....but, nonetheless, the point I'm trying to get across is that YouTube has seemingsly become it's own network. A network that individuals can profit off of as content creators as well businesses because of as revenue. It's almost like a self sufficient video market.

There are countless YouTubers with their own expertise these days. From vloggers to fashion advise givers to raw viral videos and movie reviewers as well as so SO much more. I personally like watching Rooster Teeth, Philly D, and other various popular channels. For me YouTube has become my source not only for entertainment, but for new as well because it comes straight from the people and not from a funded one-sided news outlet. Again, great way of thinking for my own career, but there will always be a need for local news on TV. Gotta give the young athletes recognition some how to boost their confidence....community awarness is also important.
