Music videos can make or break a song. If there is a song that you think has a deep
and powerful meaning when you listen to it but then you look up the music video
and find out it’s all about a chicken it may kill your good vibes for that
particular song. On the other hand,
music videos can do a song a lot of good.
I think my favorite kind of music videos are the vague ones. Being vague with a music video allows for the
person watching to have their own take on it.
Yet, I also really like music videos that tell a story, but I think both
being vague and telling a story can be combined into one music video.
A good example of this kind of music video is
by My Chemical Romance (a band that has been my absolute favorite since I was
7) and the song is called I’m Not Okay (I Promise). In a nutshell the music video is about a guy
who is in love with this girl who is already in a relationship, she likes him
as well but not enough to break up with her boyfriend for him. In the music video is talks about how he is
going to be breaking away from the situation because she wears him out and he
is sick of always having to run around with her, hiding from her boyfriend. He keeps telling her that he is okay, but in
all reality he isn’t because he honestly liked her a lot.
It was the first music video that I saw of
them when I was 7 and I have been hooked on them ever since, I’m even getting
their first album cover tattooed on me. I can honestly say that they have saved my life.
