Horror and the Concept of Genre Pieces

Horror is something I had never been much of a fan of. Not because horror is something that would frighten me, but rather the stereotype and overall feel and effort that is normally put in. Very rarely do I see a horror film or play a horror game that I actually enjoy. When it comes to horror games there are few among many. Then when it comes to film it is often the same lifeless gory rehash over and over again. The horror films I actually do end up enjoying is normally a parody of the typical horror filled with irony! So I think that says a lot about a lack of commitment among the filmmakers.

Then this got me to thinking about genre pieces. The typical films everyone know about: Romcoms, Horror, Action flicks, they are all the same. Lifeless and out to get money! I'm glad recently there have been some twists to typical genre films, most notably "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" which is essentially a Vampire flick infused with a western tone. Very unique and very interesting. It is also Iranian so there's that too! I think if more people would take risks with atypical films like that then more would be willing to go out an watch a film without wondering if they are going to hate it right off of the bat.
