Asexuality

Asexuality is a term that is used by people who don't experience sexual attraction. I've noticed that media doesn't really like to talk about it. Whether it is because they don't understand it, I don't know, but I know that there needs to be more exposure. A few of my friends are ace, and they've mentioned how they wish there were more characters that identify as ace, so that they can feel more accepted. Even within the LGBTQIA+ community, asexuality is not really talked about. It's hard because when asexuality isn't talked about, kids think there is something wrong with them, since they're "not like the other kids". Those kids need someone to tell them it's okay. They need strong characters who don't let their asexuality define them, but they still embrace it and are open about it.

A few weeks ago, I remember my friend getting excited because there was a well written asexual character in a book she was reading. The fact that she was excited only because there was an asexual character says a lot. We need to embrace it and start creating characters that can be inspirations.
