what matters

Documentaries have always been intriguing to me. I don't know if it's the stories, the cool narrator voices, or what, but I can always get caught up in a good, thought-provoking documentary. It's a really cool medium to view the world through; nothing like any big Hollywood movies. They are sooo emotional and engaging, and they do so much more than just play pictures on a screen. These films play life. They put viewers in the middle of actual, authentic, and undeniable real life.
Of the films we watched today, I found both of the animated documentaries really interesting. I've never seen anything like those. The HU students' project was absolutely precious, and 'Ryan' was, not gonna lie, kind of freaky, but it was very real and meaningful all the same. My favorite, though. had to be 'The Forgotten Ones'. What this artist was doing was beautiful. These people, who probably lived their lives believing that they meant nothing, or that they weren't going to go anywhere, were suddenly a part of something. The line about them seeing their pictures on a wall in a gallery, and not in a police department, was so powerful. That's what documenting is all about: documenting life: bringing awareness to something that matters. He showed these people that they mattered: it was as simple as that. It is so true that sometimes we get caught up in these big causes we can work for or for all of the money and awareness we can raise... People can get so caught up in making a huge difference for the whole world, but the story told in 'The Forgotten Ones' makes a huge point. Maybe, just maybe, making a difference is smaller than that. We don't have to raise thousands to make a difference, or start a huge foundation for something. Maybe all we need to do is show one small community that their people mean something, and that they are part of something bigger.
Just some more things to think about...!
