I N T E R S T E L L A R
I've seen a couple of blogs posted about this film already, so I thought I'd join in. I'll probably end up not saying a whole lot different than what's already been said, because this was such a fantastic film. The characters were very well-realized, especially the father/daughter relationship between Cooper and Murph. I really enjoyed the soundtrack/sound effect work and the visuals of space; all very powerful elements to the film. My only complaint would be that its length seems to outrun its narrative towards the last stretch. However, it seems from the reviews I've read that most people didn't like the last 1/4 of the film at all because it was so confusing. Personally, I would say that's exactly why I liked it. Yeah, it was pretty confusing, but that's kind of why I liked it. The story is so complex that it's bound to get at least a little confusing the first time you watch it, and I think the more you see this film, more and more of it will make sense. It's a very intelligent film, and just because you can't understand it, doesn't mean it's not a good film. (You'll have to see it for yourself to see what I mean.) I applaud Nolan for taking a risk in modeling his story in such a way that only space nuts would understand it the first time seeing it. I think he made a good decision by NOT succumbing to pleasing the masses by sacrificing his story for something that everyone could understand. This movie was brilliant and I look forward to seeing it again.
