some pixar love

I felt like my dreams came true today: never would I have believed that one day, I would actually go to a class dedicated to watching pixar shorts. GAAAAHHH YAAASSS.

I grew up watching Disney, and I love the Pixar films. So much. Their quality (as we've discussed) is 'uber-polished' and basically insane (insanely awesome). It's not just that though: it's the characters, it's the stories that we fall in love with. By watching Pixar, I found that I could have an emotional attachment to fish, that I could actually be very angry at a teddy bear that smells like strawberries, and that I find robots kind of cute. Pixar has some kind of magical power to create these characters that are so human, so relatable, that the world can just fall in love with them. They put so much work and thought into these characters, too. I read once about how the animators look at facial expressions and work really hard to convey readable and human emotions to the best of their ability. Before reading that article, I had never really thought about that in a character. But ever since, I've been obsessed. Pixar definitely got me into animation and led me to study it so to one day make it my career. They're able to make stories that people just don't forget: stories that they can relate to and laugh at and (in some cases) cry. (cough cough toy story 3 COUGH COUGH UP). The fact that they're also able to create this in short films that last like 5 minutes says a lot, too. Did you guys hear yourselves in class? (Me included). We all were talking about which short was our favorite and why we love this or that part. Pixar are like animation wizards. I admire their story-telling, and their amazing quality of work. And although, yes, I agree with the Keith Lango about how we shouldn't expect all animation to be like theirs and how we should do what we like, I will never stop admiring and loving Pixar for what they've done and will do in this field.

  1. The class was unusually louder today. Pixar may be mainstream, but it's still sheer genius. You can't deny it.
