Out of all of the films we have
watched in class, today’s assortment was by far my favorite. I absolutely loved
every minute of Sand Castle, Tchou Tchou, and The Man Who Planted Trees. Not only was the animation brilliant,
but all of the films were a true joy to watch. However, The Man Who Planted Trees was truly remarkable because of what the
story parallels.
I realized part way through the film
that this concept of a solitary man, planting acorns day after day for years,
can serve as an image of our calling as Christians. Jesus called us to GO and
make disciples. The planting of trees is like the sharing of the Gospel. A true
Christian will share the gospel as much as possible, but even if it is shared
thousands of times, only a small percentage of people will take it to heart.
Yet, like the tree planter, we must press on. Results of our efforts will not
show up immediately, but over time, with perseverance and God’s help, people
will bloom.
The biggest lesson that I learned
from this film is to not be discouraged when spreading God’s word through word
and action. We must continually keep putting forth the effort to show Jesus to
others and spread the Gospel.
