Arnold Escapes from Church

 Does anyone remember an old Nickelodeon cartoon named Hey Arnold? I bring this up because after watching the way Caroline Leaf animated sand on glass, I was reminded of how the show's creator animated a small short for Sesame Street. The short called "Arnold Escapes from Church"is about a little boy who is daydreaming in church. Inside his fantasy we see him imagine a series of crazy images while he listens to the congregation recite psalm 23.

I love the simple and funny imagery in this one. When Arnold hears the part in the psalm "The lord is my shepherd" he instantly thinks of a German Shepherd dog. When hearing the line "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over", Arnold pictures a feast where he is surrounded by bullies, one of whom pours a can of oil on his head, only to chased of by a cup with feet. The whole effect is charming.
