So on Thursday we took a pretty chill test. Especially considering that I didn't know how Leeper likes to do his test. I thought he would make it super hard and ask question like C.S Lewis talks about this and that and now describe it in terms of something fancy. It wasn't scary all hush hush the teacher could fail you if you make a sound or gesture that could be interpreted into an answer. I also think that it might be one of the funniest test I have ever taken too!
Now for the art that we viewed was all made by various christian artists. The two we really saw were Makoto Fujimura and Bill Viola. Makoto Fujimura is making it big in the art world as being openly christian. Which is weird to me that there is a biased behavior towards artists that are christian. Mostly because I was taught to not judge people on religions and backgrounds. But right now he is big because he was hired to illustrate the 400th anniversary of the King James bible. This is a pretty cool thing. The other is Bill Viola who creates religious short films off of pictures. We were shown a film of a man jumping into a pool in slow-mo and reversed which was to represent the Crucifixion. We also saw a little of the making of the ascension which was a little creepy looking. Mostly because it made me think of the ring.
Now something I want to comment is that in these works of art I didn't see the whole God and religion aspect. Maybe it is because interpretative art doesn't have a real form so you can't always tell what it is up to. Also I don't think in Bill Viola's emergence I would of picked up the Jesus thing. I thought of it being more of a body just shooting out of a well. Maybe it is because I don't always think through all the deep meanings. But I do think that art is important in Christianity since most people only knew the bible off the art they saw since they could not read.
