Spirited Away

After watching Spirited Away last Thursday I've been trying to think of a way I could apply it to all that we have been learning and discussing about in class these past two weeks.

First of all, Spirited Away is such a fantastic film. It is truly a coming of age story at heart. The trek of this little girl and to see how she changed throughout the course of her ventures is truly the great mark of this movie. Also merging many of Hayao Miyazaki's ideals into the film very subtly as he often does. Expressing his love for his Japanese culture, as well as taking to the soap box and supporting many ethical and environmental causes. Miyazaki is really great in that respect.

After watching the film, it really drew me to what we had been talking about regarding the importance of the artist communicating to the greater audience. As we read in some of our first readings. Miyazaki does this extremely well and I think he is a perfect example of what we have been talking about. He can seamlessly incorporate his beliefs into the film to communicate to a wider audience very effectively.

I think we can definitely take away something great from this film and apply it to what we have learned. I hope we can continue to watch great movies like these as to learn something great from them.
