Fairy Tales

Fairy Tales are something I have enjoyed ever since I was little. My favorite pastime was reading, and fairy tales were my favorite. I remember very specifically my dad telling me a creation story, of how a giant sea turtle carried the earth on it's back. The earth was formed by the Skywoman, who fell from skyland, and was rescued by the animals. She was put on the turtles back, and with the help of the animals, she built the earth on the back.  She was pregnant and had a daughter, who eventually had twins that continued her work. The twins would fight often, because one was better at hunting, and the other better at agriculture. Each would have spirits come to them to turn them against each other, until eventually they fought to the death. The fight lasted for several years, and through that time several peoples sprung up, and many different languages were spoken.

I think the reason I love film and theatre so much is because of the influence of different fairy tales. To me, they are the most widely known stories, and the ones that have the most influence on who we are as people. Fairy tales make me want to tell stories of my own and create my own fairy tales that might be remembered for generations.

I wasn't really raised a christian, so most of my morals and virtues came from fairy tales. I realize now that there are many similarities between culture's beliefs, and that the fairy tales that spring up in different cultures relate strongly to their belief systems.
