Comedy

Three of the comedic short films that stuck out to me the most were Little Rural Riding Hood, the Buster Keaton film, and the appearance of Robin Williams on the Johnny Carson show. Little Rural Riding Hood was very enjoyable because of the way it showed how people react in different situations. The rural wolf didn't belong in the city just like the city wolf didn't belong in the country. Both of them stuck out like a sore thumb when they were out of their element, adding to the comedic effect of this satirical film.

In the Buster Keaton short, the lack of words only added to the comedic value of the piece. The comedy came in the form of the actions that the main actor was performing instead of what was being said. This was a refreshing change of pace from today’s comedic movies and in many ways it was even funnier.  I laughed especially hard when he was caught cleaning a fake window and when the horse was trying on new shoes.

In my opinion the best piece we viewed in class was the Robin Williams appearance because of his great impact on comedy and the lasting legacy he will have on the genre forever. I really enjoyed the dolphin skit he performed and the trick or trout story he told because of the way it connected with the audience.
