Coloring inside the lines? I don't think so!
Pleasantville is a 1998 American film written by Gary Ross. Though I have not seen the movie, but from what I can tell from the clips: the towns people (who are black and white) start regaining color through emotions they haven't experience before that somehow manages to find their true selves.
What touched me dearly was Mr. Johnson looking through the art book. The arts color infused on the book started making his imagination come to life. You could see in Mr. Johnson's eyes light up. It was something so much more than just another picture. These paintings touched his heart, inspiring him to bring some color into his life by painting. It was so much more real. He didn't change color though, like all the other people who did. He stayed black and white. That was the most disappointing part. The inspiration wasn't enough to color him in, but it was enough for him to color other things in.
Color means self aware in this instance. But maybe, just maybe, he wasn't self aware of his true self: an artist. At least not yet....
I didn't even think about that about Mr. Johnson. That's a good point. Makes me want to see the whole movie now!
