I've always loved Star Wars. My dad grew up seeing the original trilogy in theaters, and I grew up when the prequel trilogy was making it's debut. I was 4 years old when Episode 1 came out (wow, that's weird to think about), so just like the short film we watched said, my little heart latched onto characters like Jar-Jar Binks (and Darth Maul) and loved scenes like the pod race and the coliseum scene where Padme, Anakin, and Obi-Wan are about to be executed by alien creatures. I was the child that George Lucas focused his new movies towards after the first trilogy, and it worked really well for me. I was drawn in to the franchise and now I enjoy all 6 movies almost equally (though I haven't seen them in a while).
I can definitely see where the first trilogy would be painful for a diehard Star Wars fan; a lot of things are different. There's a slightly different feel to the films, partially due to a new audience as well as advancements in technology and filmmaking.
Yes, now that I'm older I see how annoying Jar-Jar is and how the older films are more mature in their pacing and maybe in their style as well, but they're all great films, and any Star Wars fan should appreciate another Star Wars fan even if they don't agree on what the best and worst aspects of the films are. We're all appreciating a great work of art.
I'm really excited for the 3rd trilogy and hope that it is done with as much taste and love as the filmmakers have put into any of the other Star Wars films.
