Quick rant

I'm surprised that the subject of digital piracy has never been brought up in class before. To avoid possible FBI interference, I will assume a neutral stance.

The main thing that bothers me anymore is that thieves get better products than paying customers. If you buy Big AAA Blockbuster #1341453 on DVD, you are presented half an hour of unskippable previews (some DVD players don't have the skip button), then when you can finally start the movie, you are told that you are a terrible subhuman person for stealing. What the ****?!?! I PAID FOR YOUR TERRIBLE MOVIE. If you pirate a movie, you just get to go straight to it without any of that garbage.

The game industry handles it in a slightly different way. Games like Dark Souls have the online so deeply ingrained that it literally is a different game without it. Also, multiplayer only games, like Dayz or anything using Battle.net are literally impossible to pirate.

As an aside, the only time I think piracy is justified is when something is not available legally at all. Until recently, the only way to watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was through bootleg fansubs. Since earlier this year, it has been available on Crunchyroll (albeit with names changed due to legal reasons)
