FURY Review

For those of you who haven't seen Fury, it's a military action movie with some character development thrown into the mix.  Coming from a person who has lived with and studied the military for most of his life, this movie did't really capture my thoughts and feelings like it should have.  There were numerous inaccuracies regarding the actual battle maneuvers of the M4 and Firefly Sherman tanks used on set.  One scene in particular stood out to me because the filmmakers decided to inaccurately portray the Shermans in peril (when in real life those tanks could've survived) for the purpose of creating intensity.  I watched this scene through the eyes of a filmmaker and a military historian, and I was frustrated by the filmmakers choices.  Not only was the scene historically inaccurate, but the dialogue wasn't well thought out and this intense scene left no impression on me.  However, the film did paint a great picture of what 1945 Germany looked like, and many of the situations the main characters found themselves in actually did happen during that time period.  I also immensely enjoyed the acting jobs done by Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf.  They brought depth and an intense realism to their characters that anyone could appreciate.  Overall, I liked the film, but it's not even in my top 20 films.
