The Evolution of Animation

Time to make up for lost times!

CGI has been one of the most polarizing forms of animation. And one that has been treated unfairly. Particularly on the internet. Now I don’t think that anyone reading this blog will be one of the people that lives in the land of digital surfing, but for me I can tell you that A LOT of people, particularly people older than me, constantly trash CGI. And the main reason why is because they are getting older and can’t deal with the fact that things change and advance over time! So freakin’ what! But another reason why is because of the lack of effort. Let me explain, with the traditional hand-drawn animation, animators and cartoonists had to painstakingly draw every movement with just a pencil and paper. They had little chances for error. It was a HUGE effort of hundreds to thousands of people to animate a half-an-hour movie or even a single season of a cartoon! It was crazy! But it also showed the dedication for people to put out their work. Well with CGI, not only is it cheaper to make, but also it does make the job easier to animate since you are using a program on a computer and can have more errors to allow. Of course both forms of animation still do have the same weight of stress with the animators, like finishing a project in a limited amount of time and the constant change in the style of animation. Not to mention that CGI has the risk of being deleted FOREVER with either being accidentally deleted or technical issues (viruses, system failures, and other bad tech lingo)! Yeah paper ages, but no one would be stupid enough to “accidentally” light it on fire!

Now this should not be a big deal since it is evolution! It’s natural for advancements in the field of animation to proceed in working with this new technology to make their jobs easier. It is not a regression, is PROgression! And for anyone who can’t seem to get this through their thick skulls...

Plus there are still 2D animated shows on TV and anime...so there's that.
