It was a very small point in the conversation, but Leeper briefly mentioned about everyone having a calling, or if people didn't believe in callings. I for one definitely believe in everyone having a calling - sometimes it takes awhile to know exactly what it is, but it's there and it's different for everyone. Your calling is something you are extremely passionate about, something you want to do for your whole life and devote time to. Now there are two type of calling to me - your career/job and your ministry/missions calling. Sometimes they are both the same, and in many instances overlap.
For me my career/job calling is in the film and art industry. Maybe graphic design, maybe writing - I'm not entirely sure yet. But film and comics are my big calling and passion. Yeah that sounds funny to have comics as a calling, but no one tells that to Stan Lee. And I'm seriously passionate about comics and superheroes and all the fun stuff that comes with it. If I had a job in the comics industry, I'd be content.
I actually read comics for goodness sake. |
Now, my missions/ministry calling? Not entirely sure yet, but I'm been on multiple missions trips doing various things. Not every issue or problem is for everyone to solve and help out with, and we as Christians need to understand that. It's not that we're not sensitive to some things, it's just not our thing. I really like helping out with construction and building/cleaning homes for people. I've done that on a few missions trips. I like talking to and helping the homeless. What I've found I'm not comfortable with are small children and the sick. I visited a terminally ill center in New York once, and I was so uncomfortable there I could barely talk to the patients I was supposed to comfort. I was so freaked out, I could never do something like that. But some people, that's what they are passionate about. We all have certain areas we're called to.
I thought I was cool as a freshman. |
Career and missions callings usually overlap, because, let's face it, we are just so passionate about both callings, they just end up becoming merged. Some people are called to be missionaries, some start organizations and foundations. For me, I'll probably help in film campaigns and making stories prevalent to the issues I'm called to. So the idea of 'callings' is a great one to me, and I just wanted to share a little on it. I'll ask you - what to you feel called to and passionate about?
