I must admit I was sort of
surprised… Ballinger not showing us super crazy weird videos. I mean some of
them were, but I recognized a lot of them. Take
Me On was one that I was really hoping he was going to show and I’m so glad
he did. It presents a unique comparison
and contrast between the animated world and our world. Plus the story tied the
whole thing together beautifully and kept me engaged. The animation alone was
beautiful done and it looks like a lot of work went into it (whether it
actually did or not is another question). I think my favorite part is the
beginning when his hand reaches out and takes hers. I’m always stunned at how
perfectly well meshed the live action and animation are, especially for that
time period.
Video
Killed the Radio Star is another one that I recognized as being one of the
first and most original music videos. It was a crazy trip back in time I’ll
admit, but I did see a lot of characteristics that laid the foundation for
music videos we see today. And you know, I think it’s true; video did kill the
radio star, but dvd killed the video, so circle of life I suppose.
Overall, I’m not a huge music video
fan just because I feel like whatever is happening in the video usually doesn’t
have much to do with the song. That’s not always the case but many times it is,
such as Total Eclipse of the Heart.
Honestly, the literal version of that made more sense to me than the regular
version, plus it was way funnier. Now I’m going to go look up more literal
music videos!
