yeah titles are ew

I feel like a church that doesn't allow for art is like a person who cuts of their arm because they don't like the color of nail polish on their finger nails. It's not a solution and just ends up hurting them in the long run. You can get by with only one arm, people do it all the time, and they do it magnanimously . It makes things clunky and hard to manage. It's a hindrance. Not unlivable without, but also not as much muchier as it could be.

Art is something that should be uncomfortable. Or at least something that disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed. I've sat through enough services where the pastor does that weird intense talk-yelling to know that (at least in the Nazarene denominations) Comfortableness is a no no. It's like, Jesus is here to comfort you, but don't let yourself get too comfortable.

Art is all about that chiz. It can invoke feelings and memories and some are wonderful and some set us on edge.

Van Gogh used to eat yellow paint because he thought it would make him happy. The colors and patterns he used to weave his works meant so much to him, he thought ingesting the medium would help with his depression somehow.

Art disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed. Isn't that what the church is supposed to do?

  1. "Art disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed". I like that. Did you come up with that yourself?
