The cost of happiness

Last class we were shown clips from a movie called Pleasantville. The main point to the film was that anything safe and predictable used only the color scheme of black and white while anything fun and unpredictable was bathed in color.

This created two very different realities that we face today: do we play it safe where we can't get hurt and know what our future holds? After all isn't the unknown scary and can be quite hurtful? Or do we take risks, put oursleves out there and be spontaneous? Have fun? After all isn't that what some of our greatest memories are made of? While the unknown may be scary isn't that what makes life exciting? Not knowing what's gonna happen?

It's a tough choice to make. And people try to live both ways. They play things safe except for a decision here and there.  I think in the movie we saw a little glimpse of that; those people were muted color.  But why would you only do something halfway? And wasn't the image so much more beautiful when it was in full color?

From my experience, living in full, rich, detailed color is always worth it.

  1. I agree with you on this. I believe that a world full of color offers a lot of bright futures as well as happiness if everyone would open their eyes to this beauty of a world we live in.
