A king in a jesters court

Robin Williams is in that small group of people where you can say just about everyone made a connection with him in their life at some time or another. When he passed it was like the whole internet exploded with sorrow because of how great of man he was and will continue to live on to be in his memorable work. His case, though, has highlighted an issue that we often sweep under the rug; depression.

Many in this world, especially in own society, suffer from depression. It's not something that can be fought with medication, although we try, but something that is most effectively combated with kindness and being there for those affected. Our society constantly berates us with the thought that we aren't good enough for this or that. It's a never ending battle because even if you are told that you are good enough you still always have that dark thought tucked away in the corner of your mind.

Mrs. Doubtfire himself is an example to us all that even those who tend to smile the most might be smiling the least on the inside. From Flubber to Patch Adams and Aladdin to the Dead Poets Society, each of his roles made us either laugh or look inside ourselves and inspire us to be great. If I could say one thing to him right now it would be thank you and right now I can only hear in his voice saying back to me with his trademark grin, "for what?".

Remember to smile and remember to laugh, but, most importantly of all, remember to be kind.

RIP Robin Williams
